BATHYMETRY PREDICTION

Abstract:Three methods of bathymetry prediction:Space Domain Method,Frequency Domain Method and Least Square Collocation Method were compared by actual bathymetry calculating for three experimental areas.The results show that the accuracy of Space Domain Method is slightly better than the others,the calculation efficiency is much lower and not suitable for bathymetry predicting over a large area,however.Frequency Domain Method can be used to calculate bathymetry model quickly by FFT algorithm,and accuracy is acceptable.Detailed statistics information of the bathymetry is needed for bathymetry inversion with Least Square Collocation Method.This is contradicted with the purpose of bathymetry predicting.The bathymetry models for the experimental areas were calculated with Frequency Domain Method combined with the vertical gravity gradient anomaly and the data from ship soundings.The result indicates that it is possible to predict bathymetry wiyh vertical gravity gradient anomalies.
