Abstract:On the basis of the GPS data from 2001 to 2004, the horizontal crustal motion features of the Weihe basin were analyzed. The relations between earthquakes and the strain distribution features were also discussed. The following results are obtained: 1)There is difference between the movements,relative to the stable Ordos block,on the eastern and western side of the Weihe basin, among which the horizontal velocities of the GPS sites located at both sides of Bin CountyXi’anLantian which is in the middle of Weihe Basin are obviously bigger than that in other areas;2)Jingyang Xi’anXianyangLintong area of Guanzhong district is the maximum zone of high shear strain and also has intensive isogram of high strain, which corresponds to small earthquakesprone areas, namely, TongchuanJingyangLintongWeinan region.
