Abstract Based on the observation principle and data storage model of VPbased broadband vertical pendulum tiltmeter，using the combination algorithm of empirical mode decomposition（EMD），STA / LTA energy ratio and leastsquares fitting，via C++ and MATLAB programming realization，the tiltmeter automation observation is optimized while achieving automatic identification of abnormal signal and automatic zero，and improved the quality of data acquisition and application.The effectiveness of the method has been verificated through examples.
