Abstract Generally,GPS users often apply no estimation of the tropospheric delay to short baselines. To study the influence of the estimation of the tropospheric delay on the short baseline with big height difference,20 hours of continual GPS observation data of a 1.2 km short baseline with the height difference of 156m were collected by 2 leica1200 GPS receivers. The result from GAMIT 10.4 shows that there is a no apparent influence on the horizontal components, and the height repeatability is still good, without the estimation of atmospheric delay, however,in which condition, systematic errors on the up direction will be included.
