A NEW VARIANCE COMPONENT ESTIMATION METHOD USED FOR COLLOCATION

Abstract For the collocation model, the quasiobservation equation usually is introduced to signals, and then the variance components for both observation errors and signals estimates are computed by use of the Helmert equation. A new formula to estimate the variance components for collocation model is derived based on the quadratic forms of residuals and signals. The numerical example indicates that the new method can get the same results as that based on quasiobservation equation, thus the method is proved to be true.
