Abstract Today, urban development is so rapid that the updated cycle of geodatabase should be shortened. After studying existing results based on GIS and CAD models, the updating system based on Check Out/In is put forward. By use of the CAD’s mapping functions fully, new surveyed data are inserted into the area to be updated, and saved to a sub-geodatabase. At the same time, its parent geodatabase will detect it and respond to automaticly. Experimental results certify that this method can update the city’s fundamental geodatabase more rapidly.
