Abstract The overall quality of tilt tide data observed with water tube and pendulum tiltmeters at Macheng station during 1994-2008 is evaluated.The results are as follows.These data of tilt observation for 14 years are continuous and reliable，the instruments work normally and stablly and the 5 quatity indexes reach the national advanced level，the result from narmonic analysis of long series shows that the tilt tide observation with the water tube has exceeded the international level in the terms of data accuracy，continuity and applicability.In the same time，it is shown that the values deviated from the mormal value before the Ruichang M5.7 and the Wenchuan M 8.0 earthquakes.
