Abstract The Jiemian reservoir in Fujian was impounded in Feb.,2007.This paper analyses the background of earthquake in Jiemian reservoir area,which are the seismic activity characteristics of epicentral distribution of historical and present records, the depth of the source and the focal mechanism solution. Considering the characteristics of reservoirinduced earthquake it seems that reservoirinduced earthquakes may occur in Jiemian.
