ON WAVE VELOCITY RATIO(Vp/Vs) IN BADONG AREAAFTER IMPOUNDMENT OF THREE GORGES RESERVOIR

Abstract The multistation method is applied to calculate wave velocity ratio and its coefficient of earthquakes above ML2.0 in Badong area after the impoundment of the Three Gorges reservoir. The result shows that the variations of wave velocity ratio are related to the shallow epicenters,fracture growing and infiltration diffusion of water in the area. It is shown that the ratio decreases in the dilatancydiffusion phase and increases before the earthquake .The area is rich in underground water so the wave velocity ratio is higher than that in some other area.
