Abstract The multipath effect has strong repeatability when the surveying point and its surroundings keep unchanged. In order to analyze the property of the multipath effect in GPS for deformation observation, a vibration measurement test is carried out by use of a simulation vibration table. The results show that there are some jumps of high frequency in the multipath error series and its main frequency is near to the vibration frequency of the table, thus it makes the repeatability down, but in the part of low frequency. After the multipath correction using the part of low frequency which has a certain repeatability, the accuracy of GPS measurement can be improved about 30%.
