Abstract Study on the algorithm for getting realtime position of the sun and the moon and drawing their orbits are the main purposes of this paper. On the basis of famous GPS data processing software GAMIT, the theory and method for getting 3D coordinates in the inertial coordinate system is introduced, and the way to transform inertial coordinate system to bodyfix coordinate system is discussed,and the formula for solving solar and lunar apparent place is given. Taking into account of the solar eclipse chronometer phenomena happened on 22/07/2009 in China, data at nineo’clock, thirtynine minutes and eighteen seconds in Shanghai is used to analyze the track of the sun and the moon, and the methods are proved correct.
