Abstract The significance of structural geology and earthquake dynamics in protecting against and mitigating earthquake disasters is described, and the framework and scientific connotation of structural geology and earthquake dynamics are proposed. On the basis of analyzing the development status in China and international development tendency in related research fields, the developing thoughts and objectives in structural geology and earthquake dynamics are presented, and the priority research fields and subjects, as well as scientific research plans and special research projects during the National Twelfth FiveYear Plan are proposed. Correspondingly, some suggestions for the matching policy and ensuring measure are presented.
