Abstract:TOPEX/Poseidon(T/P)altimeter data and tide gauge data from 1994 to 2000 were used for analyzing the annual and quarter sea level variation on the coast of Hong Kong. The results show that processes of sea level variation obtained with TOPEX/Poseidon(T/P)altimeter and tide gauge data are synchronous. The relative rising rate of sea level from the tide gauge is 12.18mm/yr,and the rising rate of absolute sea level obtained from T/P is 7.73mm/yr,which is 4.45mm/yr less than the former. That means that it is possible to speculate the ground subsidence in Hong Kong by using the satellite altimeter data and tide gauge data.
