Abstract:This article discusses the basic principle of bathymetry inversion in frequency domains., In addition, the response function relationship between the bathymetry and gravity anomaly is analyzed briefly. Based on the uncompensated plate model, the bathymetry in South China Sea is predicted from satellite altimetry-derived gravity anomaly and the ETOPO1 model. The precision of the predicted bathymetry model is about 10% using the ETOPO1 model and ship-derived bathymetry data. The advantage of this technique is that there is no need to use the ship borne bathymetry data as control points, and the disadvantage is that it requires a prior bathymetry model as a reference. Furthermore, in shallow sea and seamount areas, the precision is a bit lower, and the seamount peak is underestimated excessively.
