Abstract:In this paper, the recent progress of lunar laser ranging (LLR) is introduced briefly, including the establishment of facility, lunar orbit, and lunar exploration with multiple data sources. The observable of LLR is the round-trip travel time of laser pulses between stations on the earth and passive reflectors on the moon. LLR can help us fully understand the earth-moon system and has many applications. The next generation of retro-reflector will improve the accuracy of LLR measurements and improve the science by one to two orders of magnitude. Yunnan observatory of CAS has successfully received laser photons returned recently, becoming the first laser station with the capacity of lunar laser ranging in China. The accuracy of the lunar orbit can benefit from the increasing number of LLR stations. The technology of lunar exploration is increasing. The combination of multiple data will result in a better and more comprehensive understanding of the moon.
