LIMITATIONS OF SATELLITE ALTIMETRY AND FUTURE TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS

Abstract:Limitations of conventional satellite altimetry are summarized. The principles of four new altimetry techniques including Kaband altimetry, constellation technology, GNSS altimetry and wideswath altimetry are introduced.The advantages and disadvantages of these new techniques are analyzed. The implementation of these techniques will complement the conventional altimetry, and greatly extend the applications of satellite altimetry.
