1 ON MINIMUM 1D VELOCITY MODEL APPLIED IN THREE GORGES RESERVOIR AREA

Using 7 330 P arrivals and 3 524 S arrivals from 490 events observed by the Three Gorges seismic network,
the minimum 1D velocity model including P wave model, S wave model and station corrections is obtained with the Kissling method and then the model is applied to precise earthquake location. The residual RMS of the relocated events has reduced from 0.56 s to 0.41 s,
thus great improvement of the accuracy of hypocenter location has been made in the east, north, and vertical direction. The result indicates that the minimum 1D velocity model is better than other models.

8 ON SENSIBILITY OF GPS BASELINE LENGTH AND DIRECTION CHANGES BEFORE AND AFTER KUNLUN MOUNTAIN EARTHQUAKE

On the basis of the data of Crustal Movement Observation Network of China(CMONOC), the characteristics of baseline length and direction
changes before and after Kunlun Mountain earthquake are studied.According to the rupture direction of Kunlun Mountains earthquake and the characteristic difference in the different bearing of baseline change,the sensibility problem that related change of baseline length and direction to the earthquake are discussed theoretically. The study shows that: 1) If the baseline direction is consistent with the earthquake’s fracture direction then the sensibility of baseline length will be higher than baseline direction; 2)If the baseline direction is vertical to the earthquake’s fracture direction then the sensibility of baseline direction is higher than baseline length; 3)If the baseline direction makes angle 45° to the earthquake’s fracture direction then both the baseline length and baseline direction may evidently change before the earthquake.

12 ON WAVE VELOCITY RATIO(Vp/Vs) IN BADONG AREAAFTER IMPOUNDMENT OF THREE GORGES RESERVOIR

The multistation method is applied to calculate wave velocity ratio and its coefficient of earthquakes above ML2.0 in Badong area after the impoundment of the Three Gorges reservoir. The result shows that the variations of wave velocity ratio are related to the shallow epicenters,fracture growing and infiltration diffusion of water in the area. It is shown that the ratio decreases in the dilatancydiffusion phase and increases before the earthquake .The area is rich in underground water so the wave velocity ratio is higher than that in some other area.

15 ON SEISMOGENIC AND ITS BACKGROUND TECTONICS OF JIUJIANGRUICHANG SEISMIC SEQUENCE

Through a variety of means,such as remote sensing,distribution of aftershock and field exploration,it is proved that in the north to Ruichang there is a group of NNW fault——Wushan buried fault which dissecting through the upper crust at least and then it is proposed that the Jiujiang-Ruichang earthquake may result from the NE RuichangWuning fault together with the Wushan buried fault,concretely,the mainshock is controled by the former and the aftershock by the later.

26 ON MINI-EARTHQUAKE SWARM OCCURRED IN SEPTEMBER, 2006 IN XIETAN, ZIGUI COUNTY

The mini-earthquake swarm occurred during Sep.17-22, 2006 in the west of Xietan town, Zigui county. The ML1.8 earthquake occurred at 21:10 of Sep.20, 2006 was strongest one among them.
The analysis of related data shows that the epicenters of this earthquake swarm are concentrated in the west of landslide broken belt along coal bed of Xiangxi stratum between old Shimen village and old Xietan town, the focal depth is within 0.5 km above sealevel,the main focal mechanism solutions are positive inclinedsliding; the best frequency of this earthquake swarms amplitude spectrum is concentrated at 2 Hz,it can be concluded that this earthquake swarm is minecollapsed earthquakes which is effected by the earth’s surface layer gravity, and this swarm includes several tiny landslides of shallow layer.

This paper analyzes the important role of Bouguer gravity anomaly in the detection of the earth’s crust tectonics, and the disadvantages of Bouguer gravity anomaly that come from the gravimetry on the ground in the present geology and geophysical prospecting
and puts forward a SST gravity model,for example, EIGENGRACE02S, from pure gravity satellite data and analyzes its advantages and applicability. With the development of space technology and for surmounting the disadvantage of the concept of ‘satellite gravity anomaly’, this paper puts forward the concepts of ‘real satellite gravity anomaly’ and ‘pseudo satellite gravity anomaly.

tectonic of the seismic sequence is the NW fault zone in this area,meanwhile it is also related to a group NE faults.

62 ON GENESIS OF YESANGUAN MICRO-EARTHQUAKESIN THREE GORGES AREA ON YANGTZE RIVER

The microearthquakes in Yesanguan region have the features of intermittency and low frequency. They distribute on the south side of Xianglong hill anticline——the watershed between Yangtze river and Qingjiang river.
Having studied the parameters of the microearthquakes in recent years, we find that the genesis is different from the natural earthquake and reservoir earthquake. It seems to be caused by the occurrence of coal mining goaf where the
shallow layer’s stress of the earthsurface converges and strain accumulates, leads the rock body become unstable and induce these earthquakes.

The gravity data at the stations of China observed before and after the Indonesia Ms8.7 earthquake occured on Dec. 26,2004, are analyzed.On the basis of the monthly variation of the tidal factor of M2 wave and the response ratio to loading and unloading,the possible tendentious gravity change caused by the earthquake is discussed.The analysis shows that the tendentious change of the tidal factor of M2 wave caused by the Indonesia Ms8.7 earthquake is obvious but the trends are different for the stations in different place.

74 RECORDING EARTHQUAKE ABILITY OF WATER LEVEL OF DEEP WELL AND EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION

The recording earthquake ability Mst of the water level of a deep well can flect the state of underground stress field,
which is the magnitude difference between Mt and Ms,where Ms is determined by a regional seismostation network,
Mt is the magnitude of a coming earthquake from the level data of a deep well.
1 559 water level data related to earthquake of three deep wells is used to calculate the earthquake magnitudes and then these Mt are compared with the earthquake magnitudes Ms.
These results show that these Mt are with the confidence level of 97.5%, the Rvalue is 0.5 and the Wallenvalue is 0.54. 623 maximum values of each month is used and these Mt are with confidence level of 97.5%, the Rvalue is 0.42 and the Wallenvalue is 0.42.
In the 16 years period past, the practice shows that the water level observation data analysis is a helpful method for earthquake prediction.

The observations of the horizonal penbulum tiltmeter at Chongqing station since over 10 years before are arranged systematically.The feature,mechanism and magnitude of disturbance of temperature,rainfall,dewatering and loading variation are analyzed and summerized.The
acting law of disturbance,the recoginition and elimination methods are determined.The anormalies recorded by the horizontal pendulum tiltmeter at Chongqing station on the 4th day before the M5.4 earthquake(1989-11-20) occured in Tongjing about 67 km away from the station are recoginited as the earthquake precursor.

MapGIS does well in map drawing, but appending dots representing epicenter in seismic tectonic map is an actually tedious work.
A method that concludes following steps is presented. Firstly,convert the text file recording earthquake information into the clear text of MapGIS, sencondly,create graphic file from the clear text,finally, connect attribute for dynamically marking. According to the above procedure, taking Microsoft VC++6.0 as the tool, drawing epicentre distribution map based on secondary development of MapGIS can be realized fast and accurately.
